2nd Interaction Design and Human Computer Interaction Workshop
within the framework of the 5th International Conference on Typography and Visual Communication (ICTVC)

Department of Design & Multimedia, University of Nicosia, Cyprus

Interaction Design is about designing interactive products to support the way people communicate and interact in their everyday and working lives. (Rogers, Sharp and Preece, 2011) Human computer interaction (HCI), a component of Interaction Design, is concerned with the design, evaluation and implementation of interactive computing systems for the human use and with the study of major phenomena surrounding them (ACM SIGCHI, 1992). Most people today spend a significant part of their lives in front of a screen, interacting with a computer, a smartphone or a tablet to get their work done, to communicate, to hold meetings, to learn, to socialize with friends, to play games, and so on. This interaction has to therefore be carefully studied, so that designers make well-argued decisions and users are supported by a well-designed interface that offers an optimal user experience. The goal of this workshop is to bring together academics, researchers and practitioners whose work is related to interaction design and human computer interaction. The workshop is endorsed by ACM SIGCHI Cyprus.

Topics of interest include:

  • Interaction Design and Devices
  • Interaction Design and the Web
  • Social Interaction Design
  • Interaction Design and Children
  • Affective Aspects in Interaction Design
  • Prototyping Methods
  • Evaluation and Usability
  • HCI in eLearning
  • User Experience
  • HCI education
  • Accessibility issues

Please submit a 300-500-word abstract no later than 15 December 2012. Submissions should be in English and must be made electronically to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. in the form of a Word or PDF document attached to your email. Abstracts should outline your topic and main argument(s) and should include your name, position, place of study/employment as well as the title of the workshop (e.g. ID & HCI).

Authors will receive feedback concerning their submissions by 28 February 2013.

The Workshop proceedings will be part of the 5th ICTVC Conference Proceedings. The corresponding presentations will appear on the Workshop’s website.

2nd Call for Tutorial Proposals
22nd ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces

ACM IUI 2017 is the 22nd annual meeting of the intelligent interfaces community and serves as a premier international forum for reporting outstanding research and development on intelligent user interfaces. The 22nd edition of the conference will be held in Limassol, Cyprus.

ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI), with contributions from related fields such as psychology, behavioral science, cognitive science, computer graphics, design or the arts. Our focus is to improve the interaction between humans and machines, by leveraging both more traditional HCI approaches, as well as solutions that involve state-of-the art AI techniques such as machine learning, natural language processing, data mining, knowledge representation and reasoning. ACM IUI welcomes contribution from any relevant arena: academia, business, or non-profit organizations.

IUI 2017 is pleased to invite tutorial proposals. Tutorials offer the community an opportunity to learn about the state-of-the-art concepts and techniques and allow the presenters to share their expertise. We invite proposals from active researchers and experienced presenters. Ideally, a tutorial will cover the state-of-the-art research and development in a specific area strongly related to IUI. Tutorials on interdisciplinary areas, novel or fast growing directions, and significant practical applications are also encouraged.

Each accepted tutorial will receive one free IUI 2017 registration.

Submission Guidelines

The proposals should be PDF documents not exceeding 3 pages, submitted by e-mail to the tutorial chairs at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We encourage prospective presenters to contact the tutorial chairs in advance and discuss their tutorial ideas. Each tutorial proposal should provide the following information:

  • Name and title: Your name, the tutorial title and the expected length of your tutorial (up to half a day).
  • Description of tutorial topic and goal: Detailed outline of the tutorial, along with descriptions of the objectives, its relevance to IUI, benefits to the attendees, and course materials/handouts (links to online materials encouraged).
  • Organizers: Name, email address, and affiliation of each presenter. Note that each listed presenter must register for the conference and be present at the tutorial.
  • Target audience and prerequisites: Target audience level (introductory, intermediate, advanced) and prerequisite knowledge or skills.
  • Experience: Tutors' short bios and their expertise related to the tutorial, including history of previously given tutorials.
  • Equipment and software requirement: please list any that will be needed.
